Opportunity in the 159th District

Friends,

I’ve shared with you a number of stories and announcements recently about business expansion and job growth in all corners of Georgia.

Today, I wanted to share with you several recent announcements that reflect how these opportunities will impact us here in the 159th District.

As many of you know, Hyundai recently announced a record breaking investment in a new electric vehicle plant nearby in Bryan County - a great opportunity for great jobs in our region.

And as we’ve seen from recent announcements, the opportunity created by this facility won’t be limited just to that plant.  In recent weeks, two suppliers have announced new plants in the region.  Hyundai Mobis is Hyundai’s parts and services arm, and will be building an additional facility in Richmond Hill to provide power systems, while Joon Georgia will be investing $317 million in a Bulloch County manufacturing plant as a supplier to Hyundai.

Last week, AeroDynamic Aviation opened a 40,000 square foot facility in Effingham County. This home grown success story began operating in 2014 with nine employees and three machines in a 9,000 square foot facility.  Growing every year as a supplier to Gulfstream, Aerodynamic eventually outgrew its space - a great problem to have.

Given the great workforce and job friendly environment we have here in Effingham County, AeroDynamic decided to stay right here as they expanded.  They are a welcome hometown company.

Of course, success stories like these are often a team effort, with a skilled local workforce being an important requirement for growth.  That’s why I was proud to hear of the Career Ready Bulloch website launched last week.

Leaders in the Bulloch County Schools community realized the importance of working together to ensure our students are ready for 21st Century career opportunities in their community.  With this launch by their career, technical, and agricultural education programs, students will be able to take advantage of work-based learning opportunities - just one way Bulloch high school students will be able to graduate ready for whatever comes next.

With this great tool, alongside other innovative programs in Screven and Effingham counties, we are positioning our K-12 resources to provide for our students’ brightest future.

Conclusion

As long as I serve you in Atlanta, I will always fight to keep Georgia a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

I love hearing about the positive impacts that those efforts have - from small business successes like AeroDynamic to larger corporations choosing Georgia as the place to expand.

And I realize that a large part of being ready to take advantage of those opportunities involves the efforts of our local educational systems.  I am thankful for the educators in Bulloch, Effingham and Screven counties!

Rest assured that I will continue to work with my constituents and my colleagues in Atlanta to provide opportunities for purposeful growth.
