Preparations

Friends,

As I have mentioned to you, I’ve been honored by my Republican colleagues to be nominated to serve as Speaker of the House by the House Majority Caucus beginning in 2023.  If elected by the entire House membership on January 9, 2023, I will assume the role of House Speaker.

As you might imagine, much time has been spent over the weeks since my nomination in preparing for this role; working with legislators and staff to ensure a smooth transition; learning the rules for presiding over the House Chamber; and working with the Governor and incoming Lieutenant Governor to develop a policy agenda that continues to put Georgians first.

At the same time, Dayle and I and many of you are preparing for something more important - Christmas.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, many Georgians observe the season of Advent - preparing for the coming of Christ.

Things can get distracting in this world we live in.  Whether it’s vitriolic campaigns and divisive candidates, or shopping for the latest must-have Christmas presents, we often lose track of what’s most important.

As a Christian, I believe that what’s most important for us to remember this time of year is the birth of a baby boy in a manger in Bethlehem 2,000 years ago.

As an elected official, I believe that what’s most important for our state is that we all come together to do what is best for Georgia and Georgians.

As you come together to celebrate faith and family in the coming weeks - whether you’re celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, or another important date in your faith tradition - I hope that you will join me in taking an opportunity to redouble our efforts to prioritize what’s most important in our communities.
