Celebrating Inauguration Day + Snow in South Georgia
With winter weather impacting much of central and southeast Georgia this week, many state offices remained closed to keep our hardworking state employees and legislative staff safe.
We’re grateful to all of the dedicated Georgia Department of Transportation staff and our utility providers for their dedication to keeping Georgians safe and warm during the winter storm, and we’re looking forward to being back in Atlanta on Monday for another productive week of the 2025 Legislative Session.
Inauguration Day
On Monday, we celebrated the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump, our nation’s 47th President. We will work closely with the new administration to deliver results on the issues that matter most to Georgians—from lowering taxes, defeating inflation, securing our border, and keeping our communities safe.
Welcome back, Mr. President.
Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.
Monday was also MLK Day, and it was great to join friends, neighbors, and leaders from across the district at Effingham County’s annual MLK Breakfast event to remember and honor the wisdom and courage of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
May we always remain steadfast in carrying out his mission to create a better world and brighter future for every person.

Snow Day in South Georgia
It’s not often that we get snow in South Georgia, but when we do, we try to enjoy it while it lasts. Dayle and I were excited to have our grandkids over for the day on Wednesday and have the opportunity to spend some much-needed quality time with our family during this busy time of year.

I hope everyone is staying safe and cautious as the snow and ice continue to melt over the next few days. Please remember to travel only when necessary to keep the roads clear for emergency response vehicles and utility workers. Have a great weekend!
My best,
Speaker Jon Burns
