2025 legislative Priorities + Winter Storm Updates
It’s been a busy week in Atlanta as the Georgia House gears up for another productive legislative session under the Gold Dome which will begin on Monday, January 13th.
From healthcare and education investments to public safety and job creation—we’re looking forward to delivering results for the people of our great state.
Annual Pre-Session Press Conference
On Wednesday, I hosted a pre-session press conference at the Capitol to outline the House’s priorities and agenda for the 2025 legislative session.
I am incredibly proud of the work the members of the House are doing to make a meaningful difference in this state. We will be both effective and impactful, driving forward strategic investments that will benefit all Georgians. Our goal is to continue prioritizing those policies which will create greater opportunities, safer communities, and a better quality of life for every citizen of our great state.
Check out some of our priorities below:
This is far from an exhaustive list of the issues that will come before the House this year, and as I always say, there’s no issue we can’t discuss—but we’ll continue to prioritize the policies and measures that will keep Georgia the best place to live, work, and raise a family for generations to come.

RESA Literacy Coach Meeting
Earlier this week, Dayle had the opportunity to speak with literacy coaches from Georgia’s Regional Education Service Agencies, Let’s Read Georgia, and Growing Readers in Carrollton. RESA’s literacy coaches serve our communities by providing targeted literacy training and resources to school districts across the state, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their incredible work championing early childhood literacy initiatives.
We’ll continue to take every step necessary to bolster our literacy rates and ensure that every child in Georgia has the ability to read with proficiency by the third grade.

Honoring President Jimmy Carter at the State Capitol
Over the weekend, I gathered alongside members of the General Assembly to honor President Carter and reflect on his legacy of public service that began at our State's Capitol over six decades ago.
Please join me in continuing to pray for President Carter's family—and every American impacted by his leadership—in the days ahead.

Winter Weather Preparedness
Snow and ice accumulation across North Georgia is expected to continue throughout the day. Please remain cautious and avoid any unnecessary travel to allow response teams to work.
Stay tuned to the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and your local news sources for up-to-date information.
Projected snowfall and ice accumulation totals will fluctuate over the next few days, but a few inches of snow and one-quarter of an inch of ice or more will be possible across much of north Georgia and even parts of central Georgia
Hazardous travel conditions are likely on Friday and Saturday, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways
I hope everyone stays safe and warm this weekend, and I look forward to being back at the Capitol doing the people’s work on Monday.
God bless,
Speaker Jon Burns
