Celebrating the Life of President Jimmy Carter + Happy New Year
Happy New Year from our family to yours. Dayle and I have enjoyed spending some much-needed quality time with our family and loved ones this holiday season, and we’re looking forward to another busy and productive year in 2025.
The New Year always marks an exciting beginning for the Georgia House as we prepare for the upcoming legislative session and look forward to the work ahead of us to continue making our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family for generations to come.
We wish everyone safety, health, and happiness in the year ahead!

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of President Jimmy Carter
On Monday, the Lord called home His good and faithful servant—President Jimmy Carter. A proud citizen of Plains and one of Georgia’s most accomplished native sons, his career of public service took him to the Governor’s mansion and the White House.
Along that remarkable journey, he exemplified the pragmatic wisdom of a peanut farmer, the work ethic of a homebuilder, and the unyielding faith of a Sunday school teacher. Through the Carter Center and Habitat for Humanity, President Carter’s legacy of selfless service to our state, our nation, and the world will live on for generations to come. He will forever be remembered and revered as one of our nation’s finest public servants.
We lift his family up in prayer as we join with them in mourning his passing.

Welcoming New Effingham County Tax Commissioner Daniel Rodewolt
Last week, I joined a host of local officials for the swearing in of Effingham County’s newly-elected Tax Commissioner Daniel Rodewolt. I’m grateful for the service of all the local leaders who work tirelessly to make our community a better place, and I wish Commissioner Rodewolt the best in his new role.

Pray for New Orleans
Dayle and I were incredibly saddened by the news that at least 14 people were killed and dozens of others injured during a horrific terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in the early hours of New Years Day. What should have been a night of celebration for the New Year and the Sugar Bowl quickly turned into a night of tragedy and mourning for the people of our nation.
We’re grateful to the first responders who ran into danger and prevented a much larger loss of life, but we continue to uplift in our prayers the families and loved ones of those who were lost and all those who were injured.
In the aftermath of devastating tragedy, the American people have continued to show unshakable resilience at every turn. Watching as hundreds of Georgia and Notre Dame fans gathered in the Superdome, divided by the colors they wore but united in their resolve, was inspiring—and that’s the message we’ll continue sending to those who wish to break the spirit of our Nation.
God bless,
Speaker Jon Burns
