June 18th Runoff Election

It was another incredible week meeting with citizens across the state and discussing our work in the House to make Georgia a better place for our people, businesses, and families.

Tuesday, June 18th was runoff day for the May 21st primary election, and our incumbent House members performed exceptionally well. We’re also excited to work alongside a new candidate in Georgia’s 131st District as we look toward November.

Congratulations to Representative Steven Sainz (R-St. Marys) for his victory on Tuesday night. We’re looking forward to continuing our work with Rep. Sainz on behalf of our state and the people of the 180th District.

I also want to congratulate Rob Clifton who won his runoff in House District 131 in Columbia County with 73% of the vote. To learn more about Mr. Clifton and his platform, you can visit his campaign website at voteclifton.com.

Georgia Health Care Association

Earlier this week, I had the privilege to attend the Georgia Health Care Association’s annual conference to meet with their members and leaders to discuss the future of healthcare throughout our state.

GHCA has been an incredible partner to the General Assembly as we’ve prioritized increasing access to healthcare for Georgians in every corner of the state. From providing us with critical data and strategic policy recommendations to their help in bringing every voice to the table—none of the work we have done to reform and expand our healthcare system would be possible without their incredible dedication to Georgia’s patients and practitioners alike.

Thank you to GHCA President and CEO, Chris Downing, and Vice President of Government Affairs, Seth Coker, for your tireless efforts and continued partnership.

Comprehensive Health Coverage Commission

On Thursday, I announced my appointments to the Comprehensive Health Coverage Commission.

  • Ms. Pam Clayton, Vice President, Quality Advancement and Regulatory Affairs, GHCA

  • Dr. Sid Moore, Ophthalmologist

  • Dr. John Odum, General Surgery Specialist

  • Dr. Delvecchio Finley, President and CEO, Atrium Health Navicent

Expanding access to healthcare for Georgia families in a fiscally responsible manner has been—and continues to be—a top priority for the House. We're looking forward to working alongside the members of the Comprehensive Health Coverage Commission during the interim as they gather the facts surrounding this issue and develop strategic policy recommendations that could fit the needs of our state and our citizens.

It’s an honor to work on behalf of the people of our state, and It’s always a pleasure to speak with each of you about the issues that will shape the future of Georgia.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out, shared their concerns, and offered their suggestions as we work to make Georgia the best place to live, work, and raise a family. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

My best,

Speaker Jon Burns
