Crossover Day Under the Gold Dome

Yesterday was a historic Crossover Day for the Georgia House, as a record-breaking 76 bills were passed in our chamber for consideration by the Senate. From tax relief to professional licensing reform, each of those bills represents a step forward for great policy on behalf of the people of our state.

Georgia House Passes Tax Relief

On Crossover Day the House passed two measures to provide critical tax relief for Georgia families. The first, House Bill 111, reduces the state income tax by another two basis points from 5.39% to 5.19%, which is two years ahead of Governor Kemp’s originally proposed schedule.

The second, House Bill 112, puts $1 billion back in the pockets of hardworking Georgians through another historic one-time tax rebate. Taxpayers are eligible to receive an amount equal to: In the case of a single taxpayer or a married taxpayer filing a separate return, $250.00; In the case of a head of household, $375.00; or in the case of a married couple filing a joint return, $500.00.

No one knows how to spend their money better than the ones who earned it. That's why we’re proud to champion these measures that reduce the tax burden on Georgians across the state.

Georgia House Passes Professional Licensing Reform

During the interim, the House and Senate Joint Blue-Ribbon Committee on Licensing worked tirelessly to hear from stakeholders in every corner of the state about the issues they face when obtaining or renewing their professional licenses.

The House passed HB 579 which cuts burdensome regulations and streamlines the professional licensing process to help get qualified Georgians on the job.

With only twelve legislative days before Sine Die, we’ll be hard at work for the remainder of this session to pass strong, common sense, conservative legislation that keeps our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family for generations to come.

Have a great weekend!

My best,
Speaker Jon Burns
