House Priorities Pass + Preparing for Crossover Day

It’s been another great week for our state as the House has passed several priority measures and championed initiatives to support Georgia families, protect girls’ sports, and keep our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family for generations to come.

Riley Gaines Act Passes the House

Yesterday, the Georgia House affirmed our commitment to protecting integrity and fairness for female athletes with the passage of the Riley Gaines Act. No young woman should ever be forced to face a biological male on the court, on the field, or in the locker room—and I’m proud of this legislation that brings us another step closer to codifying protections for girls’ sports.

I want to thank Representative Bonner for championing this bill, each member of the House for their dedication to protecting girls’ sports, and Riley Gaines for lending her support to the House as we fight to safeguard fair and safe athletic competition for Georgia’s female athletes.

Protecting Access to IVF

On Thursday, HB 428 passed the House with unanimous bipartisan support. This legislation ensures Georgians struggling with infertility will never have to question their ability to seek medical assistance with starting or growing their families.

Thank you to Representative Franklin for championing these critical protections for IVF, and to the members of the House who continue to support Georgia’s families every step of the way.

Check out some more highlights from this week below:

Greeting former Governor Nathan Deal to celebrate the success of his children’s book, ‘Veto, the Governor’s Cat’, which was inspired by the legacy of the late First Lady Sandra Deal and her work to champion literacy

Celebrating the passage of Rep. Lehman Franklin’s bill which will codify protections for IVF, ensuring every Georgian has an opportunity to seek medical assistance when starting or growing their family

Joining members of the House Majority Caucus to celebrate the success of two priorities for the 2025 Legislative Session—protecting girls’ sports and codifying access to IVF

Thursday, March 6th is crossover day, which is the last day a bill can pass out of the House to be considered by the Senate. Next week will undoubtedly be incredibly busy under the Gold Dome as both chambers work to get our priorities across the finish line.

It’s always great to hear from each of you about the issues we’re considering here at the Capitol, and each member of the House is looking forward to serving the people of our great state for the remainder of the 2025 Legislative Session.

My best,
Speaker Jon Burns
