Happy Valentine's Day + Championing Families

Over the weekend, our dear friend and Chief of Staff, Terry England, was injured in a heavy machinery accident on his farm at home in Barrow County. He is currently receiving treatment from an incredible team of doctors and medical professionals and is making great progress each day.

Dayle and I ask everyone to join us in lifting up Terry, Mrs. Cindy, all of his family and loved ones, and his doctors in prayer during this time. We also respectfully request privacy for them as they navigate the days ahead.

While Terry recovers, Chris Riley will be serving as interim Chief of Staff for the remainder of this session. While I’m deeply saddened by the circumstances of this transition, Chris brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will be invaluable as we continue our work on behalf of the people of our great state. No one knows Terry England’s mind and heart for Georgia better than Chris Riley—and I’m confident he will step into this role with Terry’s love for our state at the forefront of his leadership as interim chief of staff.

Please continue to join me and Dayle in praying for our dear friend, Terry England

Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine's Day to my best friend and amazing wife Dayle! I couldn’t do this job without her, and I’m grateful for her today and every day.

Wishing my wife, Dayle, a Happy Valentine’s Day

Effingham Day at the Capitol

It was great to be joined by an incredible group of folks from back home for Effingham Day at the Capitol on Monday. I always enjoy the opportunity to share the work we’re doing under the Gold Dome to champion our communities and constituents.

It's the honor of a lifetime to serve House District 159, and I'm grateful for the friendship and support of the Effingham County community.

FEMA Disaster Relief

I joined Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper in sending a letter to President Trump thanking him for his tireless commitment to rural Georgia and asking for his support in securing further federal disaster relief funds for the Southeast Georgia communities impacted by Hurricane Helene.

We are grateful for the tireless support of Georgia’s Congressional Delegation in securing partial federal disaster relief for the individuals and communities impacted by Hurricane Helene, but our communities are still facing unprecedented losses and millions of dollars in incurred clean-up costs. FEMA has extended the application deadline for North Carolinians affected by Hurricane Helene, and we’re requesting that the deadline be extended for every area included in the Major Disaster Declaration, including 41 counties throughout Southeast Georgia.

Protecting IVF

On Thursday, I was proud to join Representative Lehman Franklin to introduce HB 428 which codifies protections for IVF ensuring that Georgians struggling with infertility will always have access to the treatment.

Millions of Americans and Georgians are faced with infertility when they begin the journey to start or grow their families. We know that IVF has allowed thousands of Georgians to achieve the dream of parenthood, and this legislation ensures that access to this life-changing medical assistance will never be a question in our state.

The legislative session is in full swing, and as always, I encourage each of you to reach out and share your thoughts on the issues and policies that matter most to you.

Thank you all for your continued encouragement.

My best,

Speaker Jon Burns
