Coastal Retreat + Honoring Senator Jack Hill

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed some quality time with family and loved ones over the holiday weekend.

It’s been a busy and exciting week for me and Dayle as we’ve traveled to meet with constituents and House members across the state ahead of the 2025 Legislative Session. Check out some of this week’s highlights below:

Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center

On Wednesday, Dayle and I gathered alongside our fellow Georgians from across the state to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center at Georgia Southern.

Jack and Ruth Ann were dedicated public servants, and we are all better today because of the work they did to ensure a brighter future for every Georgian. I often say that a story seldom told is a story soon forgotten. While we toured the building, I saw many of Jack’s quotes and sayings on display throughout the convocation center, and I’m proud that this new facility will help keep the words and memory of Jack and Ruth Ann alive for generations to come.

Thank you to President Marrero, the entire Georgia Southern Community, and our partners in the General Assembly who all had a significant hand in making this state-of-the-art facility a reality for our community.

Rural Development Council

This week, the House Rural Development Council held its final meeting for 2024 in Statesboro. Thank you to Chairmen Gerald Greene and Mack Jackson for their leadership, and to the members of the council for their dedication to championing our rural communities throughout Georgia.

We look forward to hearing the final recommendations of the council and continuing to pass measures that support the well-being and future success of rural Georgia through securing further disaster relief, increasing access to healthcare, supporting rural school systems, bolstering our infrastructure, and providing opportunities for economic mobility to Georgians in every corner of the state—regardless of ZIP code.

Georgia’s Future Coastal Retreat

Earlier this week, I joined our caucus members and supporters on the coast to celebrate our victories in November’s election where we maintained a 100-seat majority in the House and made significant progress with minority voters in Georgia’s competitive Metro Atlanta districts.

It was great to have Congressman Buddy Carter with us to highlight the work our Congressional Delegation is doing in Washington to support our state, and to discuss our upcoming legislative priorities in the Georgia House with our caucus leadership team.

We’re looking forward to continuing our work to maintain and grow our majority and keep Georgia the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

Supporting Representative Rick Townsend

While we were on the coast, I had the opportunity to meet with Representative Rick Townsend and many of his friends and constituents in St. Simons. Representative Townsend has been an incredible advocate for coastal Georgia and has championed policies to create a better quality of life and greater opportunity throughout the state.

I’m looking forward to continuing our work together in the months ahead.

It’s always a pleasure to hear from each of you. I hope to see you across the state soon.

My best,

Speaker Jon Burns
