Celebrating Healthcare + Community Organizations

Medical College of Georgia

I’ve had another fantastic week meeting with Georgians across the state to celebrate our legislative accomplishments and support organizations working to make a difference in the lives of our families and citizens.

Over the weekend, I was honored to receive the Medical College of Georgia’s 2024 Legislator of the Year award. The Medical College of Georgia and its leadership, faculty, and staff work tirelessly to educate our state’s future physicians and champion access to healthcare in every one of the 159 counties in our state. The House allocated a total of $6.4 million for the creation of a new medical campus in Savannah. When MCG welcomes its first class to the new campus this fall, it will be one of the largest medical school classes in the nation. I’m proud of this accomplishment for our state, and I’m looking forward to continuing our work to ensure every Georgian–regardless of ZIP code–has access to quality, affordable healthcare.

Effingham Navigators Club

On Tuesday, I joined the Effingham Navigators Club to celebrate their work on behalf of children and families in our district. This incredible organization provides free resources and recreational activities for disabled children including assistance in navigating their transition into adulthood through basic skills and career training!

It was truly an honor to receive the Senator Jack Hill Legislative award from this group of dedicated volunteers, and I’m looking forward to their continued work on behalf of our community.

80th Anniversary of D-Day

Thursday marked the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. We reflected on the bravery and valor of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy. Their heroism altered the course of history, and we're eternally grateful for their dedication to the defense of our freedom and liberty.

11 Alive’s The Georgia Vote Interview

I also had the opportunity to sit down with Zach Merchant from 11 Alive’s The Georgia Vote to discuss our legislative accomplishments in 2024, the upcoming November elections, and our priorities for next year. It was a great discussion you won’t want to miss, so make sure to tune in this Sunday at 11 a.m.

As always, it’s been a privilege to talk with so many of you about the priorities and policies that matter most. I hope everyone has a great weekend, and I hope to hear from you soon!

My best,

Speaker Jon Burns
