Primary Elections + Honoring Our Military
Georgia’s 2024 Primary Elections
Tuesday was election day, and our incumbent House members won decisive victories across the state. Georgia voters chose candidates with proven records of supporting common-sense policies that make Georgia better for every citizen.
Congratulations to Representatives Jan Jones (Milton), Chuck Martin (Alpharetta), Stan Gunter (Blairsville), Jordan Ridley (Woodstock), Derrick McCollum (Chestnut Mountain), Todd Jones (South Forsyth), Brad Thomas (Holly Springs), Robert Dickey (Musella), David Jenkins (Grantville), Joe Campbell (Camilla), Marcus Wiedower (Watkinsville), David Clark (Buford), and Carmen Rice (Columbus).
Representative Steven Sainz (St. Marys) received 49.7% of the vote and is headed to a runoff on June 18th!
We’re looking forward to continuing to spread our message across the state as we work to strengthen and expand our majority ahead of November!
There was also a critically important Georgia Supreme Court race on the ballot this election cycle. Justice Andrew Pinson won a resounding victory on Tuesday night with 55% of the vote. Congratulations to Justice Pinson!
Ahead of President Biden’s commencement speech at Morehouse last weekend, he claimed that “Trump hurt black people every chance he got.” We know this type of divisive messaging won’t work here in Georgia. I discussed how our caucus has prioritized policies that make our state better for EVERY citizen in a press release on Saturday. You can read my statement below:
“Republicans have delivered results that create generational pathways to economic prosperity for every citizen in every corner of the state,” said Speaker Jon Burns. “Whether it’s lowering taxes, investing in education, expanding resources for small businesses, or increasing access to healthcare — the House has championed policies that make our state the best place for everyone to live, work and raise a family.”
Georgia is not only No. 1 for business but also consistently ranked highly among the best places for African American entrepreneurs, and Atlanta boasts the largest rate of Black-owned small businesses in the nation.
Both the Atlanta and Savannah regions rank in the top 6 cities for Black businesses to thrive.
Georgia State University graduates more Black students than any college in America.
Minorities own over 38% of businesses throughout the state.
In 2023, we passed HB 128 which expanded qualifications for the minority business certification.
Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day Weekend
Last Sunday, we honored our active duty service members for their sacrifices and dedication to defending our freedom. On Monday, we will observe Memorial Day and remember the men and women who paid the ultimate price while serving our country.
These holidays serve as a reminder to us all of just how costly our liberties are, and I ask each of you to join Dayle and me in praying for the families and loved ones of our American heroes this weekend.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our House members this election cycle. There’s no doubt that each of you played an integral role in helping us achieve the results we witnessed on Tuesday—and we’ll need your continued support throughout the year as we prepare for November.
I hope everyone enjoys their holiday weekend, and I look forward to seeing you across the state soon!
My best,
Speaker Jon Burns
