Election Recap + Veterans Day Ceremony
What a great week it has been for our state and for our nation. Tuesday, November 5th was Election Day, and thousands of Georgians across the state showed up to the polls to cast their ballots.
During the early voting period, Georgia voters shattered early voting records with over 4 million ballots cast—and that is an incredible testament to the hard work we’ve done in the House to secure our elections and restore confidence in the process.
House members and candidates throughout Georgia had a great night on Tuesday, especially in our Metro-Atlanta districts where our members faced increasingly competitive races. The results we witnessed are thanks to each one of you who has supported our efforts throughout this election cycle. I can’t thank you enough for your continued dedication and friendship as the House prepares to keep our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family during the upcoming legislative session.
From passing historic tax cuts, investing in education, increasing access to healthcare, and bolstering public safety—the Georgia House will continue to champion Georgia taxpayers, families, children, and citizens in every corner of the state.

Veterans Day Ceremony
On Thursday, I joined Governor Kemp and an incredible group of Georgia veterans to celebrate and honor the men and women who have served our nation in the armed forces. It was a pleasure to introduce my friend and colleague, Representative Chas Cannon, who served overseas in the United States Army from 2001-2008.
Since our founding, the spirit of the American patriot has guided our nation to victory against seemingly undefeatable enemies and insurmountable odds—and that same spirit continues to guide our nation today as our soldiers protect and defend the principals of freedom and democracy here at home and across the globe.
To all of the veterans across the state, on behalf of every Georgian—thank you for your service and the sacrifices you have made in defense of our freedom. We owe you a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.

State Board of Education Meeting
On Thursday, Dayle spoke to the State Board of Education about our efforts in the House to increase early literacy rates, and provide every Georgia student with greater opportunity through better educational outcomes—regardless of their zip code.
From prioritizing the science of reading in our classrooms to expanding funding for Pre-K programs throughout the state, we’re committed to ensuring our children receive the best education possible. Thank you to Dayle, the Georgia Department of Education, and the Georgia Literacy Council for their unwavering support of the future generations of our state.
We appreciate Chairman Dr. Stanley DeJarnett and the members of the board for extending the invitation to share our message.

New Relief Resources for Georgia’s Agriculture Industry
Last week, new measures were approved to provide critical relief for Georgia’s agriculture industry in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission (GSFIC) approved a proposal redirecting $100 million in defeasance proceeds to the Georgia Development Authority (GDA) to provide financial support to Georgia farmers and timber producers.
Of the $100 million, $75 million will be provided to disaster relief loans for Georgia’s agriculture industry, and $25 million will provide support for timber related clean-up efforts and debris removal.
The GDA board met on Monday morning to vote on the proposal. Additional details regarding the application process for these funds is forthcoming.
It’s an honor and privilege to serve on behalf of the people of House District 159 and the great state of Georgia. I look forward to your continued friendship, input, and support as we prepare for the upcoming 2025 Legislative Session. Please never hesitate to reach out about the issues and policies that matter most to you. Dayle and I hope to speak with you soon.
My best,
Speaker Jon Burns
