Economic Development Opportunities for all Georgians

Friends,

A little over a year ago in May 2022, Hyundai company officials were joined by Georgia leaders including Governor Brian Kemp to announce the opening of an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Bryan County.

There have been many developments since that stand to benefit citizens in the 159th District.  The plant broke ground in October 2022, and in May 2023 Hyundai was joined by LG to announce a battery manufacturing facility as a part of the Ellabell Meta plant.

Many Georgians understandably wonder whether they’ll see the benefits of a plant like this opening nearby.

That’s why I wanted to let you know how to search for employment opportunities with the new Hyundai plant as well as other south Georgia employers.

Through the Georgia Department of Labor, you can search for job listings in our corner of Georgia at https://dol.georgia.gov/find-job.  Hyundai jobs are currently visible under the “Featured Employers” link, but other opportunities are there for you as well.

Hyundai is just one example of the expansion of job opportunities occurring today in Georgia as our economy thrives under the leadership of Governor Brian Kemp and our General Assembly and Economic Development leaders.

Hyundai’s arrival will create other job opportunities as businesses begin operations to serve that facility. For example, automotive supplier Hanon Industries is creating 160 jobs in Bulloch County, while Sewon America is creating over 700 jobs in the city of Rincon in Effingham County.

Aside from these automotive opportunities,  Bradshaw Home, a leading designer and marketer of kitchen and cleaning products will build a new distribution center in southern Effingham County creatin more than 230 new  jobs.

Under the leadership of Commissioner Pat Wilson, Georgia’s Department of Economic Development works hard to create opportunities in all corners of our state. For example, over 80% of the positions last year in Georgia were created outside of metro Atlant.  You can learn more about the efforts of Commissioner Wilson and his team in Coastal Georgia specifically at www.georgia.org/regions/coastal-georgia.

I am proud of our job creation team here in Georgia.  The Department of Economic Development, the Governor, our General Assembly, and private sector leaders are all pulling together to move our state forward.

And most importantly, the businesses that are willing to invest their dollars in Georgia are a result of our welcoming environment…we are growing and creating opportunities for current and future Georgians.

As our region of Georgia continues to grow, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions about my work as your Representative or as Speaker of the House, or with your thoughts about new opportunities.  You can contact me at 404.656.5020, Jon.Burns@house.ga.gov, or on Facebook at www.FB.com/JonBurnsGA.  If you wish to sign up for my weekly emailed newsletter, visit https://www.friendsofjonburns.com/home to sign up.
