Celebrating Freedom for All in South Georgia

Friends,

Freedom for all is one of the things that makes our country so special, and something that I’m proud to see people in the 159th District come together to celebrate every summer.

A few weeks ago, we recognized Memorial Day, with events in Effingham, Bulloch, and Screven Counties.  These important events and observances gave us an opportunity to recognize and remember the military men and women who have died to preserve our freedom.

And of course, in just a few days we’ll celebrate July 4th - Independence Day. Communities in the 159th District and around Georgia have already begun celebrating, and will continue to do so through the 4th of July.

In Rincon on June 24th, the city hosted the Freedom Rings parade and evening festival, bringing an exciting all day celebration to Effingham County.

On June 25th, Screven County hosted its annual Red, White and Boom 4th of July celebration in Sylvania, featuring fireworks and family activities.

Coming up, Bulloch County is hosting the Firecracker Fest on July 1st from 5p to 10p at Mill Creek Park, which you can learn more about at https://bullochrec.com/4th-of-july-information.

On the 4th, fireworks will close out the Savannah Stars and Stripes Weekend Celebration at Plant Riverside.

But as we all know, some of the most memorable celebrations of our American Independence will happen closer to home, with backyard grilling, barbecue, or perhaps an afternoon swimming at the lake or pool with family.

However you choose to celebrate - whether at a large community event with fireworks, or with a personal prayer of Thanksgiving with your family for all that we have as a country - I hope you’ll remember all who have sacrificed and will sacrifice in the future for our freedom.
